 Foreign Language Education

Our high school Foreign Language system is based on sudents achievements and the power of being hardworking, responsible individuals who can easily take initiative. We want our students to take an active part in all English projects, activities, and clubs. Our drama shows, fun activities and discussions enforce a high quality of learning for everyone. Our 9th graders have 7 hours of English per week and they also have the chance to learn a second language 2 hours per week.
The Department strongly believes that students learn by doing many activities that contribute to learning experiences, yet have a flavor of being different. We have a system based on” speaking” which does not include the students who are in our Foreign Language Programme. They also learn the skills of debate and discussion.

Our  program will continue to emphasize the basic skills in speaking, listening, writing  also grammar and vocabulary so that students can communicate clearly and effectively in various situations.

Lise 9 English Classes

There are two separate English courses in Lise 9: A, a high-level course, and B, a low-level course. In both of these courses the students develop skills. During the year they work on improving their reading and critical thinking skills They also work on improving their writing skills. Students are expected to write regularly... In both classes students are expected to participate orally in a wide variety of classroom pair and group activities.
Also all students should be ready for a regular grade 9 weekend course programme. Five seperate hours are given to intensive work of mixed English abilitiy, with those students who come with the least English being pulled out for extra lessons and a special language club.

COURSES & CLUBS

Our students have individual courses with their teachers when they have questions or problems about their lessons or projects. Teachers help and support our students on their studies and projects.  After school students can have individual studies with their teachers. It’s a very good advantage for students to repeat the subjects which they learn in a day.

On the other hand, our school aims make our students to join a sport club or other facilities; such as, arts, literature, etc. The education system which is supported with social activities raises the success potential. Our school result is a good proof for this

CLUBS

English Drama Club

Life is like a stage. Learning is a rehearsal for children's future performances. TED English Drama Club aims to combine English learning and performing arts. It will help students to understand the importance of teamwork and makes language learning fun and more meaningful.

Every Thursday after school students and our English teachers get together. The course is two hours long. It is co-taught by a native speaking teacher and a high school English teacher.

We started off with a series of drama warm ups  and a general discussion on the students' preferences. We discussed a number of issues connected with what a good play is, characterisation, acting, movement etc.  We are planning on performing Romeo and Juliet in spring.

Students will work through this performance from reading the script to putting on make up, costumes, stepping out onto the stage under blaring lights to entertain a huge audience - all in English!

Debate Club

Debate clubs work best when there is a strong sense of group identity. As TED English Debate Club this is our motto. Debates play an active role in personality development of an individual. Through debates students learn to argue and to convince others in favor of their opinions.
Debating brings benefits to students in many ways. Students who participate in debating gain confidence in speaking in public, are coached in effective speaking styles, learn to work in teams, develop research skills and learn to look at both pros and cons of an argument.
Our debate club gets together every Thursday after school.
